Duncanville begins title defense.
February 27, 2020
On Monday, the Duncanville Panthers began the defense of their state championship with a win against rival South Grand Prairie. For Duncanville it was a first round matchup featuring a two of the best teams in the state. Duncanville which finished 1st in their district faced off against South who finished fourth in their district. The Warriors trailed from the beginning while Duncanville lead for much of the game thanks to great play from Micah Peavy and Zhuric Phelps. Coach David Peavy shared a few things from the game.
Coming into the game what concerns did you have regarding your team or the opponent?
Our main concern was keeping full-court pressure on them and rebounding.
The game was physical from the start. Do you feel your team responded how you wanted them to early? What was the biggest difference in the second half?
I thought we matched their physicality from the start. We were extra aggressive on their ball handlers and that paid off for us. We were able to wear them down as the game went on.
There was several key moments in the game, but what was the biggest turning point for your team?
I think the first turning point happened in the second quarter when we got 3 or 4 steals in a row and converted all of them.
Who where the standout players and why?
Micah Peavy was steady and dominant all game. Zhuric Phelps made some really big plays in the 2nd half.
Duncanville will face Lewisville this Thursday in round two of the playoffs.
