Duncanville Dominating Defense Crush Flower Mound 59-13

December 3, 2019

Duncanville (12-0) — the top-ranked team in The Dallas Morning News’ Class 6A area poll and the Associated Press’ 6A state poll — advances to the Region I semifinal against Arlington Martin at noon Friday, back at AT&T Stadium. Flower Mound (8-4) came up short in setting a program record for most wins in a season, although it did enjoy its first postseason victory this year

Trysten Smith rushed for 179 yards and two touchdowns on just nine carries in just one half of work in a Class 6A Division I area playoff against Flower Mound when Duncanville built up a 45-0 lead on its way to a 59-13 rout. Smith led Duncanville’s dominating rushing game, which finished with 531 yards in a 59-13 rout.

Smith, a Central Arkansas commit, has 461 yards and three touchdowns rushing in his last three games at AT&T Stadium, including last year’s 6A-I state championship game.

“I shine brightly when the lights are on,” said Smith, with a smile. “It was like it always is, running hard and blocking hard. I think this was our offensive line’s best game of the year.”

Perhaps just as impressive as Duncanville’s running game was its pass defense.

After an interception by Paul Pickens, Smith got Duncanville’s offense revved up with a 50-yard gain, setting up a 6-yard touchdown run by Ja’Quinden Jackson to open up the first quarter.

An interception by Ennis Rakestraw on Flower Mound’s next drive set up Smith’s first touchdown, 8-yard scoring run with 2:23 left in the first quarter.

A 33-yard touchdown run by Jackson opened a 31-point second quarter for Duncanville. Smith’s longest run of the day, a 76-yard sprint, set up his own 2-yard touchdown run with 6:26 left in the second quarter.

Suavevion Persley and Roderick Daniels also added touchdown runs in the second quarter for Duncanville, which had 334 yards rushing in the first half. James Roberts Jr. added a third first-half interception for Duncanville, leading to a nine-yard scoring run with 3:19 left in the first half, giving Duncanville a 42-0 lead.

Duncanville defense held Flower Mound off the scoreboard until the fourth, with one of Flower Mound’s last touchdown coming with five seconds remaining. Flower Mound quarterback Blake Short entered the game with seven interceptions this season, but Duncanville picked him off four times, two by James Roberts Jr.
