The lady Panthers next game against South Grand Prairie will be crucial to developing momentum early in the season. They suffered a 2-1 loss against Mansfield in their second district game. The teamed played well, managing ball possession and holding up defensively, but the problem seems to be with scoring.
It’s something that has killed them throughout the pre-season. Hitting the net isn’t as much the problem as when they hit it. The forwards get the ball but it’s that final touch that is lacking.
“Once we get down, we’re pretty much down,” midfielder Bianca Perez said, “it’s hard for us to make a comeback.”
As of right now the Panthers realistic goal is to make it to the playoffs, and beating South Grand Prairie will be an important step in accomplishing that goal.
“We have to play hard everygame, focus, and practice,” midfielder Cici Mora said, “Coach knows that we can do it.”
It hasn’t been an ideal start for the Panthers, but talent and skill are not lacking. They need to build momentum as early as they can, and they should be able to contest with any team in the district for a playoff spot.
