The juniors defeated the seniors with a score of 28-26 in the annual Powder Puff football game last night. The event was highlighted by the girls playing football with all their might and the boys cheerleading with all their heart. It was truly a fun night for the competitors and the people watching.

The juniors’ win came as a result of their last minute touchdown. In the remaining seconds, the seniors tried to stage a comeback as Lauren Laurent ran in what WOULD HAVE been the game-winning touchdown; unfortunately for the class of 2016, it was called back because of a holding penalty.

No matter who you were rooting for, the game was an exciting and funny thing to watch. Powder Puff tradition is an event that students and staff look forward to all year. Winning comes with bragging rights for the class. The girls competed like genuine football players in a playoff game, rather than a fun exhibition match. Both sides want to win, and that’s what makes it such a great game.

The cheerleaders were something else. Senior and junior guys were decked out in makeup, wigs, outfits and all. At halftime they performed a show that was creatively choreographed, and it was everything you would expect from the guys. These men really put their hearts into this dance, and everyone could tell. The performance was topped off by a “prom-posal” by senior Chris Soto to senior Christie Lewis. She said yes.

This year, the juniors came out on top and look to defend their title next year as seniors. This year’s seniors played a really good game and made for good memories as they head off to college. Powder Puff will hopefully be around for years to come, and every year will only get better. If you didn’t make it this year, next year come by and check these ladies out on the gridiron.
