Tickets for this year’s Cirque d’Elegance themed prom go on sale tomorrow during all lunches for $60/$75 (depending on completion of community service). The formal, which will be held on May 2nd at the Waxahachie Civic Center, is themed Cirque De L’Elegance. Some seniors were upset with this choice, but senior class vice president April Alonso said that this is because they lack complete understanding of the theme.
“The Cirque label in the prom theme refers to the style of decor that you can expect to see when you walk in,” Alonso said. “It also refers to something coming together – hence the gathering of the 2015 senior class. The definition of elegance is the quality of being graceful and stylish, so the elegance part may be used to help guide the students in the selection of their attire.”
Alonso said the class officers chose the theme after much deliberation and planning.
“We wanted to come up with something very unique and different,” Alonso said. “We spent days trying to come up with something that hasn’t been attempted in previous years. It is going to be like nothing you have ever seen before, and it’ll take everyone’s breath away,”
Despite students’ negative reactions to the theme, Alonso said she is still confident that the night will be one to remember for all who attend.
Alonso said. “A prom theme should not determine whether or not you got to prom. The senior class officers and teacher representatives have worked long and hard to prepare for this night. It will be beautiful and leave everyone’s jaw dropped. Duncanville High School’s Class of 2013 prom will be the talk of the town.”
