After only winning one game up until this point, the baseball team looks to pull off their second of the season tonight at 7 pm against Grand Prairie.
“Obviously our record is not that good, but we’re keeping our heads up and striving for success,” junior center fielder Osvaldo Salinas said.
The team has faced a number of challenges this year. According to Salinas the main problem is the lack of leadership on the team.
“They’re young, some of them,” Salinas said. “I feel that the older boys are going to take some responsibility and come through for the team.”
A big morale booster for the team was their recent win against Mansfield Summit. Salinas played a role in that win with his three 3 runs.
“It felt good because it was our first win,” Salinas said. “It gave us momentum to get on a win-streak.”
Salinas said senior short stop Blake Dial also played a role in the win. Besides for his triple, he also brought up the team’s spirit.
“Blake came in clutch,” Salinas said. “He tried to pump people up. That’s our role in the clubhouse since we have more varsity experience.”
Salinas said that he is trying to keep a good mindset for himself and his team mates. Attitude may make all the difference.
“Grand Prairie doesn’t have that good of a record either,” Salinas said. “We’re going to go in there thinking that they’re like any of the good ones. We’re not going to take it lightly, and we’ll smother them just like we did last year.”
