Personal Column: Buy them some deodorant
Duncanville’s outstanding football team scored an amazing touchdown, giving them a big district win. I was shooting photos at the junior varsity football game when a smelly, dirty, nasty player came by and put his hands straight up in the air celebrating right in front of me. It was at that moment my face moved all the way back and the horrible stench of his smelly armpits and uniform ran through my nostrils. I wanted to throw up.
Their uniforms smell like the scent a skunk puts off when they are scared. If I had the money, I would buy every person on that team two tubes of deodorant. Their body oder is insane. The atrocious smell had my nose burning for about a week, I could not smell the same anymore after that night. I tried to eat and I smelled stinky armpits. I tried to go to class and I could smell the armpits. I am weeks away from that horrible experience and I still in some ways cannot smell correctly. Nobody in world should ever have to smell the fumes that entered my nostrils that night.
I know they have people who are suppose to wash their laundry on a daily basis. This made me question if they real wash those uniforms or not. If they indeed do wash them these players must never take a shower with soap and water after games and at home. Every single one of those football players should wash their uniforms with BLEACH, because simple soap and water will not be able to kill the built up funk in the uniforms. Better yet, they should just throw them away and replace them after every game. Man invented deodorant and a showers to decrease the flaw of the terrible smell. A little shower and some soap would at least prevent others from having to smell the funk. A shower a day may not be enough but at least one shower with soap would help.
As a fellow athlete, I know what we can smell like after a hard workout. I sweat to when I play basketball and I know I smell horrible after games. I also know that when the girls basketball team walks out of the locker room you can smell the sweet aroma of antiperspirant and the sweet fragrance of perfume. We do not even smell that bad after a tough workout. Maybe this is because we actually do shower and use antiperspirant on a regular basis. If you walk into a girls locker room for basketball you wouldn’t dare smell anything of that nature, because ladies use DEODORANT. Guys, it is time you follow suit. I realize they work hard, but that is no excuse for being filthy and nasty during, before or after a game.
