Tomorrow the Panther volleyball team will host Mansfield in an attempt to event their district record at 2-2. Last week the team went up against the Desoto Eagles and Midlothian Panthers. Varsity went into three tough sets in both games, but fell short resulting in their district record of 1-2.
The team went head to head with local rival Desoto last Friday. Their first set was close, but the little mistakes eventually caught up to the team. This resulted in the score of 21-25 in the first set of the game. The girls had a motivational talk after the first set and were prepared to win. The Panthers continued to make errors and couldn’t get out of the mid-game slump. The Eagles took advantage of the opportunity and took the second match as well, 12-25. This upset the Panthers and motivated them to work harder. The final set resembled set one in many ways. The serve receive was better and the hits were more controlled. The ending score was 21-25.
“These were not the results we were looking for, but that doesn’t mean we just quit,” coach Lyn Evans said. “We will continue to work hard at practice and improve on our weaknesses.”
Tuesday the team took into consideration what their head coach said earlier in the week and began the first set off strong. That was the start of a pretty good game. The errors started backing up again and the final score of the second set was 19-25.
“We need to start strong and finish strong,” junior middle blocker Riana Williams told her team. “That is the only way we will win a game. We can’t just get tired and give up.”
The motivational speeches encouraged the team, but the score board doesn’t reflect their hard work on the court. The two match ending sets produced scores of 17-25 and 12-25.
“We have so much potential, but we just don’t see it,” sophomore right side hitter Jala Edwards said.
With this disappointing week, the Panther volleyball team is hungry for another win and continues to work hard as prepare for Friday’s big game. The panthers are prepared to leave everything on the court.
Sub-Varsity
Sub-Varsity fought hard this past week in three tough sets against Desoto. In set one the ladies struggled to finish the set, but realized the only thing they had to do was place the ball. Their hard work paid off resulting in the score of 25-21. In the second set they eased up on the lady eagles, and they allowed them to take set two, 19-25. They ultimately came out victorious with the final score being 25-21!
Tuesday however they couldn’t quite get into sync on the court and allowed the Midlothian Panthers to win both sets, with scores of 19-25 and 12-25.
