Health Occupation Students of America “lended a paw” to their community by bringing awareness of malnutrition and healthy choices. Members attended Billhartz Elementary and hosted an event at Lakeside Park to help achieve this goal.
“Due to the fast pace of life these days, we have gotten away from healthy practices with out eating and activity,” Witika Lamb, HOSA advisor, said. “The introduction of information to the young students makes them aware of the choices to make in the interest of healthy living.”
Jacquline Arpero, HOSA treasurer, said the group spoke to children about the risks of malnutrition and tips for making healthy choices. The children did activities related to the food pyramid and their favorite meal. They then made a pledge to live healthier.
“It is important to talk to children because they are our future,” Apero said. “It is crucial they understand the importance of learning and practicing a healthy life style. This is just a small push and us lending a “paw” to their knowledge of living a long and healthy life.”
HOSA member Krystal Vega said she enjoyed the community awareness project at Lakeside Park on the 25th.
“It felt really good coming out and hosting an event that the whole community could attend,” Vega said. “We had a fun time playing sports, laughing, and just enjoying the beautiful weather.”
