Student council will collect cans for the North Texas Food Bank between now and Thursday, February 13.
They are pairing with an organization called “Souper Bowl of Caring” in conjunction with the NFL’s super bowl. The organization has over 570 participants and has collected close to 1.5 million worth of donations. Students are encouraged to bring canned or non-perishable goods to their 6th blocks.
“The importance is helping others who do not have the funds to provide their families with enough food to eat,” Student Council president Shannon Sturman said. “All of the donations will go to families in our area who need food. This is a great opportunity to help others without having to go too much out of your way.”
Sturman said student council has a goal of 1,000 cans or other food items.
“We will have a prize for the class that collects the most,” Sturman said. “We have a huge school, and it would be great if everyone could participate. I’ll be happy with whatever amount we collect, though, because any amount will help the cause.”
