Tonight the Pantherettes enter the second round of playoffs against an L.D. Bell team who comes in with a 30-4 record. Even though our girls remain undefeated, head coach Self Morgan feels like tonight’s game against L.D. Bell will be a tough one. T
The Lady Raiders are coming off of a strong playoff performance in the first round drumming of Denton Ryan 65-27. The team comes into tonight’s game with three players capable of scoring in double figures. Junior Guards Cierra Johnson averages 15.8 points per game while Leah Taylor is coming off a big game where she scored 16 points as well as Sheridan Pitcher who also scored 16 points in their last game.
“They have have some tough guards who can pretty much match ours,” Self-Morgan said.
Although the Raiders could present some tough challenges for the Pantherettes they have been scoring an average of 64.5 points per game this season. With with forward senior Kiara Perry averaging 14.5 points per game and 6.5 rebounds, matching up to this team shouldn’t be as much of a challenge as it seems. Two other key players that will have a big impact on the game are juniors Ariel Atkins who is averaging 16 points per game and comes into the game as the top girls players in the state. Junior Tasia Foman will also be a threat to the Raiders as she is averaging 11 points game as well.
The key will be strong defense from the Pantherettes. If they play defense like they have all year and get to the basket and score often like fans are used to seeing then they will again run away with this game and set up a rematch against Cedar Hill in the next round.
The game is tonight at 7:00 at Arlington High School.
